Custom JE & CP Pistons

LN Engineering’s custom forged pistons are the best of their kind. Every piston is custom made, so whatever the case, we work with your desired engine specifications to make the ideal pistons for your application, period. Choose between our standard JE Forged Pistons, or for the ultimate in custom forged pistons, we offer CP Forged Pistons, for Porsche and Volkswagen.

Split oil returns are standard as well as nikasil-compatible ring. Internal lightening, mill under crown, anti-detonation groove, lightweight pins, accumulator groove, dual forced pin oilers, lateral gas ports, ultra-groove, forged side relief / strutted pistons, thermal barrier coatings, skirt coatings, casidium (DLC) coating, and any other options extra.

All LN Engineering forged pistons are designed to work with any cylinder kit, but perform the best when paired with our very own Nickies™ cylinders: The Original Solid Aluminum CNC Billet Nikasil™ -Plated Cylinders for Porsche and Volkswagen. The proprietary alloy used for our Nickies™ cylinders is designed for optimal piston to cylinder clearance using the high strength (no silicon) 2618 forging alloys used by JE and CP Pistons.

Our custom forged pistons are the best of their kind.  They feature the low-friction slipper skirts, low weight, balancing within 1/2 a gram, and are manufactured from the superior 2618-aluminum forged alloy material when specified for use with our Nickies cylinders. Our pistons are designed to maintain optimal deck height for maximum quench. Good quench allows for faster burn and better thermal efficiency, leading to better gas mileage, lower potential for detonation, and more power.

We can supply JE, CP, Mahle, Wossner, Omega or any other forged pistons to meet your needs or even supply cylinders to fit your existing pistons. Whatever the case, here’s the bottom line: we work with you to provide ideal pistons and cylinders for your application, period.

The piston below shows a piston with accumulator groove, anti-detonation grooves, and a very short pin height, which required oil rail supports in this stroker configuration.

The “Ultra-quench” dish shape design as shown mimics the shape of the combustion chamber and is sized to allow the compression ratio you want while maintaining optimal ~.040” deck height for maximum quench. This results in a faster burn for better thermal efficiency, leading to better gas mileage, lower potential for detonation, and best of all, more power. This special crown design is available for both the VW Type 1 and Type 4, as well as the Porsche 914.

Specialty thermal barrier coatings for the piston crown and anti-friction coatings for the ring lands and pistons skirts are available, as well as cryogenic treatment and Casidium diamond like carbon coatings. These added procedures work best when also done to cylinder heads and related reciprocating engine components, such as rods and crankshaft. Cryogenic services provided by 300 Below as well as Performance Cyrogenics. Coatings provided by Calico Coatings. Casidium is a TM of Anatech.

As shown above, this is a 9.5:1 86mm JE Pistons for a 356 SC, with internal lightening, accumulator groove, split oil returns, forced pin oilers, and coatings. Weighs in at 299g.

VW Type 4 Porsche 914 105mm Lightweight Edition. Only weighs 422 grams. For comparison, a 98mm JE piston for the same engine with similar flat top and valve pockets weighs 420 grams with a STD weight pin and STD skirts! Piston has been coated on the crown, ring lands, and skirts by Calico Coatings and cryogenically treated by Performance Cryogenics. 1.112" pin height for stroker crank with 22mm pin H11 tool steel pin!


3.6 Porsche 911 100mm. Features friction coated ring lands and thermal barrier coated crown. These particular pistons have been set up by JE for use with OE Goetze rings by EBS Racing.

VW Type 4 Porsche 914 96mm Keith Black Hypereutectic pistons shown with Calico Coatings thermal barrier coating on crowns and low friction coating on ring lands and skirts. These pistons work extremely well with Nickies, allowing a near zero clearance in most cases.

VW Type 1 Mahle Piston shown with Calico Coatings thermal barrier coating on crown and low-friction coating on ring lands and skirts. These pistons are an economical alternative to JEs in bore sizes of 90.5, 92, and 94mm.

Our original VW Type 4 / Porsche 914 "Ultra-Quench" piston with chamber-shaped dish and quench pads. We use this design with dishes up to 15ccs or .080" deep (whichever is less) to dial in total chamber cc's. Also available for the VW Type 1.
